In the new era of gaming back in 1980 something, one of the best RPGs was born in Japan out of the mind of Shigesato Itoi; this game was called Mother, which would be later called Earthbound by Nintendo of America and would be shipped to the US, but apparently the head of Nintendo of America thought that an RPG would be a waste to ship to America because the people were probably not going to be interested in the game. This is how Earthbound zero was cancelled for america. Fortunetly, a couple of ROM hackers got a hold of a copy of the already translated game and converted it to cartridge ready for play. After all this trouble, some years later its sequel was created, and you guessed it, it was a genuine hit. The name of this was Earthbound or for most Japanese people Mother 2. Not only was this a greater hit than the first but it totally improved in all aspects.
You take the role of 4 kids out to save the world from some unwanted visitors from outerspace. Your main character has to find and help the others in order to defeat the evil space aliens.
They are really good, the enemies are well detailed during the battle sequence, the out of battle animation is good also, they really knew how to blend in the colors. I think the best part of this is the backround during the battles, they are totally weird. I wonder what was going through Shigesato's head when he made the game? :)
Well what can i say...its mostly good, it has good sound effects and an excellent sound track that fits perfectly according to the scenes and other stuff. The music is really good even if you do not contrast it with the setting.
The controls are basic all around, the characters move at a decent pace, and you open up menus using A and B... There isn't really anything tricky about it, it just takes getting used to I guess.
There are a ton of items/weapons/psipowers at your disposal, i personally like that in an RPG. The people are really interactive with you and the story, you sometimes don't even expect that they might be important in it. Along your mission you get these weird side quests that sometimes kinda make you wonder what i do...
The game could be a little bizarre for some people (not to mention the fact that it looks like something an acid trip would make you think about), but give it a try, its an excellent piece of work.
