Welcome to the 3rd installment of the Bioware Succes series, Neverwinter Nights. This roleplaying game set off in the enchanting world of the Forgotten Realms have astounded roleplaying fanatics all over the globe. The standard edition had a good basis for multiplayer gaming, whereas the singleplayer story wasn't as good as people had expected, so Bioware made a few additions to it. First we saw Shadows of Undrentide, which took place in the wast and desolate desert of Anauroch, and now you have to go to an even more unpleasant place: the murky and gloomy darkness of the underdark to face The Hordes of the Underdark...
The city of Waterdeep is in deep trouble! The city is under siege from an army that is only to find underground...deep under the foundation of humanity is a place where the darkness never ends, and where you'll never see the light. An entire underground world of demons, horrors and pain waits to be explored - can you be the one to restore light to this world?
The graphics are of the same standard in the other editions of the game. Now, you have ability to zoom even closer, though. The underground world looks absolutely stunning when you move around in it, because you truly walk around in shadow, and that is very cool, actually.
To achieve the right ambience in a game, you need to have a consistency between graphics and sound. This, my friends, is attained in NWN: Hordes of the Underdark. The dark music and noises bring the right atmosphere into Hordes of the Underdark.
If you've played Shadows of Undrentide, you will meet some old companions in HOU... for instance you'll meet your little bard friend, Deekin, the gnome Tomi and the nice looking Shari.
You'll also find new character classes in the game, they are: Dwarven Defender, Red Dragon Disciple, Pale Master, Champion of Torm, Shifter and Weapon Master. Each of the prestige classes are available at level 21 and are exclusive to the base classes they are drawn from. They offer some nice additions to spells/skills and feats for the base classes and even change the appearance of your character. You'll never guess what happens to the Red Dragon Disciple - but it looks good, truly.
Hordes of the Underdark offers another quest to finish, but beware: the game is only to be beat if you have a character at a high level. Do not venture into the Underdark with a low level character, because then you're going to be slain easily.
Hordes of the Underdark is just an expansion, but it truly offers new life to the world of NWN. You should finish NWN and NWN: SOU before trying this out, but if you have done that, then try this... I'm sure you'd like HOU!
