The RPG Realm has a long history in the business of giving people the RPG info that they want, and we plan to continue it in the future.
The first version of the RPG Realm was called Greg's Fantasy Realm, and it was made sometime in 1997. Greg Davis, the original owner, was tired of looking all over the web for ROMs of the role-playing games he wanted to play. Greg amassed an impressive collection, with somewhere between 95% and 100% of all the SNES RPGs released in the United States. The web site was featured in GamePro as one of the hottest sites in the emulation scene.
Alas, the success was not to last. For a variety of good legal reasons, Greg's Fantasy Realm was shut down for violating copyright. The RPG Realm has never carried a ROM of any game since then, and in 2002 we removed our emulation support entirely.
In 2001, Alex joined the staff, and to our fabled message board we added a forum. About a year later, we moved to a new design courtesy of Greg and Shin Lord, who joined us in mid-2002 and who brought his popular Dream Bouts feature with him from Shin Lord's Domain. This design was to last us for many years, and during its lifespan we completed our transformation from an emulation site to a community project featuring many kinds of game-related media.
In 2004 Greg's duties to real life became too much to allow him to continue with the RPG Realm. Although we were sad to see him go, Alex took over and has been working on a major update in his free time. Using frames, the old RPG Realm was nigh-unusable to our Google visitors. After a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, the new place is open for business!
